Well it's snowing

We woke up to about 20cm of new snow then it just kept coming. At one point today it was snowing so hard that we couldn really see two chairs on front of us on the lift. So todays training was mostly free skiing with rythum in the fresh snow. This snow is expected to last until tomorrow some time.

Tommorrw we switch to GS for a few days looking forward to some good GS training.
Hope all is well at home

World cup weekend

What an insperational weekend once again for all young ski racers in canada. Britt Janyk was 3rd at Lake Lousie in the DH yesterday and 9th today in the SG. Great weekend for her. TOday the men raced GS in Colorado and Johnny Kucera was 6th adn Frank Bourque was 9th. So once again the National ski team skiing very well and inspiring our young racers to work hard and go fast.
Today was a good doy for all of us, the coaches had another good day of training, the snow is better today it was warmer and the crowds were much better. The FIS group is getting back at it the time off has taken its toll on the quality of their skiing but it is slowly coming around. Another few days and they should be back in full swing. We are expecting some snow tonite so we will see what we get tommorrow.

hope all is well at home

Jay Peak

WOW what a drive, a drive that should have taken only 7hrs or so took almost 11. I think we counted at least 6 cars in the ditch plus one tractor trailer jack knifed also in the ditch. So we took our time and just watched the snow fall all the way. Once we arrived at around 10:30pm we settled into our rooms and slept off the stress of the drive. This morning we awoke to cold temps and pretty good snow. Skiing was very cold today but pretty good. The coaches are having a good camp getting themselves tuned up for the season.

In the next couple of days we are expecting 2-3 feet of snow, not sure how much that is but I think it is around 60 - 90cm, so when the kids get here on the 7th the skiing should be perfect.

We maka de free ski

Friday our last day on snow we were greeted to 40cm of fresh snow that had fallen over night. Clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine with fresh new snow made for a great day of powder skiing for the last day.

As this camp comes to an end I thnk is has certinally been one of the best ones we have had, we did not miss many days because of weather, we were able to train mare gates than in the past as the kids were skiing very well. Our Itinerary now is we will leave for Santiago on Saturday morning, stay there over night do a bit of sightseeing and shopping then on Sunday afternoon we go to the airport and head home.

The next thing on the plan is fall camp, it is an important next step in the training plan for these atheltes. I will be communicating the schedule for that after labour day.

See you all in the airport on Monday morning.

SG and GS

Monday and Tuesday were spent on SG we had less then perfect weather but still good enough for training, it was super sunny but windy on monday, a few of the kids were to tired to train so they took the day off, this ment we had a smaller group. The ones that did train got 10 runs in the course totaling 230 SG gates, so it certinally was a good day for them. Tuesday the ones that rested on monday were able to come up, the clouds had rolled in a bit but the wind was lighter, the group was a bit bigger so they only got 6 runs total. We had a longer course than the previous day, they still got 200 plus gates.

Today we went back to GS, it was another one of those perfect days here, Sunny about -4 and good snow. We are at the point in the camp now were we are just trying to polish up a few things and the gang is really starting to ski very well. We have been awarding the fastest skier of the day a World Cup bib to ski with the next day all camp, Today the men were very tight all day JD took the bib for the second time this camp by only .06 of a second over Aiden, Mealing was only .2 behind JD and Blake just .6 back. This group of boys is working very well together and we should see some great racing this season as a result. On the womens side today Laura Beamish destroyed the feild, she is skiing very very well and she will wear the bib tomorrow. It may be very difficult to take it from her as she is just ripping.

The plan for the next couple days is SL we have gates tomorrow on some of the best terrain here, then we may get some weather on Friday if that is the case we may take the chance to free ski for most of the day. We will travel to Santiago on Saturday, do a bit of shopping and sight seeing both Saturday eveninig and Sunday before we come home Sunday evening.

I will take some pictures of SL tomorrow for you and upload them tomorrow or Friday for you.

Hope all is well and we will see you soon.
